The Dunbarton Dragons participated in the 2012 Frenchman's Bay Dragon Boat Race Festival and came 4th of the 20 plus high schools that were in attendance. They were 2 seconds off a third place finish. Special thanks go to the hard working dragons and outside coach with the Pickering Rouge Canoe Club, Darren Mossman. The students will continue to practice every Tuesday and Thursday until their next race at Centre Island on June 23rd. One of Dunbarton's own, Caitlin Dever, received a Jeff Miller Memorial Scholarship for 2012. It was given to her at the ceremony on Sunday June 3rd by Darren Mossman and Mr. Hopkins. Each year the Pickering Dragon Boat Challenge awards a scholarship to a graduating high school student to honour Jeff Miller's memory. The individual chosen must exemplify Jeff's spirit of commitment and passion to paddling, show initiative as a team member and be respected by fellow teammates. Way to go Caitlin, Dunbarton is proud of you!
Thanks to Mr. Hopkins and Mr. Kelly for all their hard work. Way to go Dunbarton Dragons!

Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival
Saturday, June 22nd, 2012 (1 day only for high schools) - junior mixed teams
The 25th Tim Hortons® Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival promises a two-day fun-filled event that brings sports, team spirit and community spirit to Toronto Centre Island on June 22 and 23, 2013.
From the humble beginning of only 27 teams participating in the first festival back in 1989, the Festival has evolved to a much bigger operation over the past two decades.
Organized by the Toronto Chinese Business Association and Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival, the Festival in 2013 will once again expect 180 to 200 teams with over 5,000 athletes.
In 2013, as the Festival celebrates its 25th year, it promises to continue to be one of the most exciting summer events in Toronto. Once again this year, the Festival will welcome teams from all provinces across Canada, from the U.S., the Caribbean Islands, Europe and Asia.
