All important updates will be posted here. Tests are announced 7-10 days in advance and quizzes are announced 2 days ahead of time.
Students are responsible to catch up on any work missed or not completed during class time. If students are aware that they will be absent for school trips, sports, extra-curriculars, doctor's appointments or any other reason, they should notify their teacher as soon as possible to make arrangments to receive their work ahead of time.
Students are expected to have a 3 ring binder, loose leaf paper and pens/pencils. It is not mandatory to have a French/English dictionary, but it would be beneficial to have one. Decent dictionaries cost between $8-$12 and can be purchased at Walmart or Chapters. Decent brands include Larousse or Collins paperback editions. If students are planning to continue with French beyond grade 9, a dictionary would definitely be an asset.
HOMEWORK: Students in grade 9 French do not receive a lot of homework because quite often, they will not have help at home if they do not understand it. Students will be given the last 10-15 minutes of classtime to begin homework and if they are using their time wisely, they should not have more than 15 minutes of work to complete at home. Regardless of whether or not they have work to complete, students are expected to perform 15-20 minutes of review each night. They should be going over what we covered in class that day to help them learn the material. This also allows them to come to class prepared with any questions they may have about what we are studying.
Students are asked NOT to use computer translators because they are not always accurate and they do not help the students learn how to conjugate their verbs. It is easy for teachers to know if students have used translators because quite often, they will use verb tenses that the students have not yet learned. If students use them, their work will not be evaluated and they will receive a mark of zero. This is considered academic dishonesty as per page 31 in the Student Code of Conduct.
