MDM 4U1 CULMINATING PROJECT
The Culminating Project is a research assignment on statistics in which students will collect data, analyze the data, and present a report on their findings. Students must work on it throughout the semester. Students will be spending the vast majority of their time working on it outside of class time.
COMPONENTS
$ collection of data on a topic of your choice
$ analysis of the data and related research
$ presentation and report
Your report should consist of the following components:
$ introduction and explanation of the issues
$ your analysis of the data combined with related findings from literature and other research
$ conclusion, limitations of your conclusions, and avenues of further study
EVALUATION
Research: 10% (Formative), Presentation and Report: 10% (Summative)
TOPIC
Students may choose their own topics but they should be intrinsically interesting.
No two groups can have the same topic. The teacher has the right to turn down a students choice of topic.
DEADLINES
Students will meet with the teacher to update him/her on the progress of the research.
Form a group and submit a topic. Sept 21
Last day to change a topic. Sept 28
Submit a paragraph on the purpose of the topic (Update #1) Oct 5 (2%)

- what periodicals or data do you have?
- where and how have you collected your data?
Progress Update #3. Nov 23 (2%)
- thesis
-list of sub-points (major points that support the thesis)
-show references form periodicals that support each sub-point
- 2-4 charts of graphs created from collected data
Progress Update #4. Dec 7 (2%)
- overview of essay (framework), which is: thesis and each main point with a point form description of
research and connections used. (basically point form version of the essay-no jazz)
- summarize what you will be presenting
Presentation and Report Jan9-12 (10%)
-submit all research, presentation, and report
