Please be advised that the Library will be closed from Monday May 6th to Friday May 17th. We are excited to be renovating and updating our facility.
Students will still be able to return and renew books at our front desk. But there will be no access to the Library itself - no book sign outs, no computers, no study space.
Volunteer of Distinction Award Nominations
The Durham District School Board is committed to excellence. Our schools excel because of the contributions of staff, students, parents and community volunteers. The volunteers in our school board make a priceless commitment to the success of our students.
The Durham District School Board celebrates the importance of the volunteers in our schools at the "Volunteer of Distinction Ceremony". Please click here for the criteria for nominations.
Nominations should be submitted to the Principal and/or SCC Chair, and discussed at a School Community Council meeting. Only ONE volunteer from each school can be recognized. Please ensure you have the correct spelling of their name.
All nominations forms must be submitted to the Board office no later than June 6, 2013.
Please note that we will require a Media Consent Form to be completed and returned to the school by the successful volunteer.
Recipients of this award will be recognized at the Volunteer of Distinction Ceremony on October 24, 2013. Please mark your calendar for this important event.
Thank you Cargill Deicing
For the second year in a row, the Dunbarton Environment Club would like to thank Cargill Deicing for their generous donation of $2,000 towards our biodiversity projects. These funds will allow us to continue to add native perennials to our pollinator garden and to plant more shade trees on campus. And we will be getting to work right away. On May 16 after school students and community members interested in helping out and receiving community service hours should meet at 3:00 in the outdoor classroom
Dunbarton Dress Code
As the warm weather arrives, it is important to remind all students of the dress code at DHS. Students are reminded to dress neatly, in good taste and in a manner which is appropriate for school. Please remember that beach wear, or other revealing clothing, is not appropriate for school. Tops must have straps that come over the shoulder and be at least two fingers wide. Fabric must be opaque, no sheer clothing. The midriff must be covered. Shorts and skirts must be appropriate in length and cover undergarments. Additionally, clothing must be free of inappropriate logos, slogans, phrases and pictures. Any student that is wearing inappropriate clothing will be required to change.
One Small Step for Prader Willi Syndrome
On Sunday June 9th, Dunbarton's own James Corkum and his family will be hosting "One Small Step" for Prader Willi Syndrome, a 3 km fundraiser walk at Alex Robertson Park in Pickering. This is an excellent opportunity to support a great cause by participating in the walk, or to earn volunteer hours helping out at the event. Registration forms can be found in the front office and in guidance, or you can register on-line at onesmallstep.fpwr.org James hopes to see all of his friends there!
Dunbarton's own Brie Davis has written and article about her experiences in Panama. It has been published in Faze on-line magazine. To read the article, please click here.
